Community
Service Thrives at Annual Brooksvale Fair
Written by Phil Nobile
This past weekend,
the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon CT-Epsilon brought their values of community
and brotherhood to the Brooksvale Fall Festival in Hamden, Conn.
Since SigEp’s
inception at Quinnipiac, the brothers of CT-Epsilon have taken part in helping
organize and run the traditional festival in what has become a tradition in the
chapter’s operations. From pumpkin carving, hand painting and parking detail,
the brother’s made their presence known in true SigEp fashion.
“They helped set up,
take down the games, pretty much help in whatever way they can,†Kirsten
Walker, a festival coordinator said. “They help with the sense of community. We
love having them here.â€Â
In 2000, Brooksvale
Park helped bring the Hamden and surrounding Connecticut towns together on a
day of fall fun. When CT-Epsilon arrived in 2004, the chapter almost instantly
latched onto the community event, bridging a normally blatant gap between the
town of Hamden and Quinnipiac students.
“We want to play an
active role as members of the Hamden community,†Dan Sullivan ’13, President of
Sigma Phi Epsilon CT-Epsilon said. “While our lifestyles differ in many ways,
going out and interacting with the locals gives them transparency that they
otherwise wouldn’t get.â€Â
Brothers held many
responsibilities during the day, including managing pony rides, helping
children with arts and crafts, and simply providing a welcoming atmosphere to
all those attending the festival.
More about the festival can be read at here.
